What's your favorite Tina Harr memory?

If you have been a part of any YMCA branch, Leadership Chattanooga, the Y Christmas Market, Youth Leadership Chattanooga, Scenic City Optimist Club, Notre Dame High School or many other Chattanooga institutions, then you probably have met Tina Harr! Once you've met her, you'll know her forever.

At the end of May, Tina will be retiring from long career with the YMCA. We'll be celebrating her accomplishments, and we want to hear from you!

What's your favorite Tina memory? Did you once work with her? Volunteer for her? Were you one of her "kids" through YLC? Did Tina once train you?

Post your message to or memories of Tina Harr here and we will share them with her the night of her retirement party. Thanks!

  1. I hadn't worked for the Y for three weeks when I attended the Staff Christmas Party. As soon as the DJ began playing the "YMCA", Tina was up and dragging me out on the dance floor. I thought, man, this woman likes to party. It was an embarrassing, but fun introduction to my coworkers. No one loves a party or gathering as much as Tina.

  2. Tina...this is Maria...(sis in law to Tina from Indiana...Chuck Harr's wife...John's brother's wife): Anyhoots, just blogging to let you know how you have touched my life in so many ways...more than I can explain on a blogspot.

But, one of the many traits that stands out about you is that I am amazed everytime we visit you, there has not been one time that we go somewhere in TN with you that someone you know or who knows you has not been encountered. You have obviously touched so many lives in your work. That has always impressed me greatly when I see this.

I value your ability to speak your mind which has always led me to feel open with you in our communication.

The drive and spirit you exude is also another trait about you Tina that I value. It is something that I look up to in a big way. God has gifted you in so many ways, and you have truly given back to others the gifts that He has provided you.

I wish you well as you enter this next exciting phase of your life journey. Love you! Maria

  3. Tina there are too many memories of our Orlando days. You have touched my life and so many others in so many ways, more than I can type. I look forward to seeing you in the future.

May God bless you and your family in your new adventures and the next phase in your life.

I can't help but smile every time I think about you, Cindy and Clark and Carolyn and all our memories.

    God Bless,

    Sissy

  4. Congrats Tina on such a wonderful meaningful career with the Y - I remember when you first started here in Orlando - I must have been an infant.....!!

You have always been such an inspiration to me - and I've loved our times together - biking, bleeding (never forget that biking crash), backgammon and so much more!

You are at the top of so many lists - wife, mother, supervisor, teacher....friend...my very special friend always. I look forward to spending more time with you now that we are both retired!

    With love, Nikki

  5. Tina - I was so pleased to receive an invitation to your retirement party...it means so much to me to be on your guest list. I am not pleased, however, to contemplate the YMCA movement without you. My memories of training at Blue Ridge with you as our team leader, and Craig Heinrichs and John Mack are so special. I know I'm hugely biased, but I think we were one of the top YMCA Career Development Program training teams in the country at that time - if not the best! I trained with some other teams at other sites, and while I think they were good, there was something so very special about how our team worked together and played together. Thank you so much for inviting me to be part of that. I still have my coffee mug to remind me of those fun weeks in Black Mountain, NC.

Please stay in touch! I can't come to the party - I'm one of the few going to the AYP Conference in Orlando next week (paying my own way to go - you know those budgets are tight). I would love to see you if you come to the Chicago area, and you can count on a call or email from me if I get to the Chattonooga area. I don't have your home or cell phone numbers, though, or your personal email address, so I hope you will send that to me soon.

Congratulations on an admirable and exemplary career with the YMCA - you have made such a huge impact on a whole lot of people - including me. I love you, my dear friend and colleague - Linda Dean

  6. "Blood Borne Pathogens!"
Yes I will miss the famous Tina Harr New Staff Orientation sessions, although I might be around for the last Camp Ocoee one she is doing in May.
I had the pleasure of attending a couple of training sessions with her over the years!

She was also great at the Youth Leadership groups that she brought out to camp, and was always ready to let the kids have fun, making smores and running around the camp grounds.

Take care Tina, we hope you have a great time!
